Nurse, Information Services
Gayle Hays
Most of us don’t think of nursing and information technology as related fields, but in Gayle Hays’ world they are intimately connected. Gayle’s job in Information Services for Mid Coast entails project management and providing support for the hospital’s health information system used by clinical areas that are involved in direct patient care.

In addition to her IT duties, Gayle serves on many hospital committees, including Clinical Project Team, Clinical Technology User Group, Physician User Group, and Medical-Surgical Documentation Professional Practice Committee.

Gayle’s off-duty time is spent volunteering as one of the nurses at Oasis Clinic. The clinic provides free healthcare services for residents of the Bath/Brunswick area whose incomes are within 150% of the poverty level, and who have no primary care physician or medical insurance.

Gayle and her husband, Jim, volunteer with Willing Helpers, a group that preserves and maintains the Bailey Island Union Church and the Bailey Island Cemetery. She is a member of the Islands Community Church, where she sings in the choir, acts as the financial secretary, and is co-chair of the Worship Committee.

Gayle’s hobbies include snow shoeing, sewing, singing, walking, boating and reading. She is the mother of two grown children, and has 5 grandchildren.

"I came to Mid Coast in late 1970 and have always felt valued. I enjoy working with nursing colleagues, physicians and therapists, learning new technology, and facing challenges and succeeding. I find satisfaction, as well as fun, in what I do, knowing I am giving my utmost.”

Gayle is a 1970 graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Lewiston. She has taken courses towards her BSN and is currently enrolled in the RN to BSN program at St. Joseph’s College of Maine.
