Saving Lives with Community Flu Vaccination Clinics

Many people get infected with seasonal influenza each year. Some will require hospitalization and some may die from complications. Infection with the influenza (flu) virus can make existing medical conditions much worse. Vaccination can avoid such complications, by helping to prevent the spread of flu.

Each fall, CHANS Home Health & Hospice partners with local municipalities, schools, and organizations to offer more than 40 flu shot clinics throughout the Midcoast region. The full schedule of clinics is available at www.midcoasthealth.com/flu. Additionally, CHANS hosts "Flu Shot Fridays,” 9 a.m. to Noon at the Mid Coast Senior Health Center.

The CDC recommends getting a flu vaccine as soon as it is publically available to help decrease lost work time and concerns caused by infection with seasonal flu. In addition to getting a flu shot, everyone should wash their hands regularly and keep away from others if they have cold and flu symptoms. Most importantly, seeing a doctor for regular check-ups will help individuals stay healthy throughout the year.
