Women's Imaging Center Installs 3D Mammogram Technology

Mid Coast Hospital Women’s Imaging Center, a branch of Diagnostic Imaging, recently introduced 3D mammography technology that has the potential to both increase the capacity for early cancer detection and expand the office’s services.

In early March, the Women’s Imaging Center installed a new Digital Breast Tomography (DBT) machine, which allows for a multi-layered and more detailed image than what is produced by a conventional 2D mammogram alone.

In addition to providing 3D mammograms, The Women’s Imaging Center will use the new technology to perform stereotactic biopsies, a procedure that uses a mammography machine to locate and remove abnormal tissue. It is a quick and efficient method that causes minimal disruption to the patient.
