COVID-19 Update, December 27: Visitation Safety Measures at Mid Coast Hospital

Mid Coast Hospital revises visitor policy in response to evolving COVID-19 pandemic

This policy is an update to the Mid Coast Hospital Visitation Safety Measures which began on Friday, March 20, 2020 and were most recently updated on November 19, 2021. This update will take effect on December 27, 2021 and shall remain in effect until further notice.

    Visitors and escorts are not permitted on the Mid Coast Hospital campus with the following exceptions:

    • Pediatrics: Two parents/guardians allowed in all areas at all times.
    • Obstetrics: One spouse/coach can be present at all times for the labor and delivery admission.
    • Patients on Palliative Care/Comfort Measures: Two visitors at a time for up to two hours per day are permitted, with times to be managed by the care team. Family members may present to the hospital for planned meetings with the medical team to discuss goals of care as needed.
    • End-of-Life Patients: Up to four family members allowed to visit patients likely to pass away within 24 hours, with visit times to be managed by the care team.
    • Emergency Department: Visitors are not currently permitted in the ED with the exception of pediatric patients, who may be accompanied by two parents/guardians. Exceptions may be made by the care team or for end of life or as needed for care plan discussions.
    • Patients in Isolation for COVID-19 Infection or Being Evaluated for COVID-19 Infection: No visitors permitted except for end-of-life patients.
    • Surgical Services, Surgical Suites & Digestive Health Center: Adult patients should arrange for drop-off unless they absolutely require special assistance. A family member/caregiver may be invited into the care area near the time of discharge to discuss care and assist in discharge. Exceptions may be made in advance for patients who do not live locally. Pediatric patients may be accompanied by two parents/guardians.
    • Medical Group Practices/Diagnostic Areas: Adult patients should come alone to appointments but may have one family member/caregiver join them if special assistance is absolutely necessary. Pediatric patients may be accompanied by two parents/guardians.

    Patients in any care setting who need help, such as with mobility or communications with the care team about their medical history or care, may be assisted by an adult escort to provide the needed assistance or support if absolutely necessary. Family/caregivers may come to care area near time of discharge to discuss care and assist in discharge.

    In all areas, we encourage the use of technology to connect patients with loved ones.

    Visitation Requirements

    Visitors will not be allowed in any units with an active COVID-19 outbreak.

    All visitors must be 16 years of age or older.

    All visitors/escorts are subject to screening. Visitors/escorts with any COVID-19 symptoms will not be allowed to enter Mid Coast Hospital facilities.

    All visitors and escorts must:

    • Perform hand hygiene prior to entering and upon leaving a patient’s room/care area;
    • Wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose at all times in the facility; and
    • Not go to any locations in the facility other than the room of the patient they are visiting. The Hospital Cafe's seating is closed to visitors at this time.
