CHANS Home Health & Hospice honored more than 50 volunteers at a celebration on April 12 at McAvoy's on the Green at the Brunswick Golf Club. The event highlighted the outstanding work of the hospice volunteers and recognized several individuals for their extraordinary efforts.

"We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of exceptional volunteers that work throughout Mid Coast–Parkview Health,” said Randee Reynolds, Vice President of Community Health at Mid Coast–Parkview Health. "At CHANS, many of our volunteers have come to us because they have experienced hospice care or heard about the superior care that CHANS provided to a co-worker, friend, or neighbor. Yet, all of our volunteers come to us with compassion and the heart to provide outstanding service to patients and families.”

CHANS Home Health & Hospice provides care and comfort during the final six months of an individual’s life. Personalized care plans allow the individual to remain at home while receiving professional, medically based support and comfort care in line with his or her needs and wishes.

Over the past year, hospice volunteers provided more than 3,500 hours of direct care and grief support to persons in our community. They have given guidance, support, companionship, and respite care to hundreds of individuals, families, and caregivers. At the celebration, many volunteers were recognized for their years of service and others were given awards for their support of the hospice volunteer program.

Special recognition was given to Lola Charron who was recognized as the Alyce Redman Volunteer of the Year. Charron began working with CHANS in 2016 and has since given more than 430 hours of her time supporting CHANS clients and programs.

"Lola has been a blessing to me, to our team, and most importantly to the clients we serve,” said Zillioux. "We are lucky to have a pool of highly qualified and dedicated volunteers. But to stand out among such an outstanding group is a true honor. She is highly deserving of this prestigious award.”
