To commemorate November as National Home Care & Hospice Month, the Home Care & Hospice Alliance of Maine held its Annual Blaine House Tea on November 1 in Augusta. At the event, attendees celebrated the dedicated professionals and volunteers who provide care and support to individuals and families across Maine. Kim Ruby of CHANS Home Health & Hospice was named Caregiver of the Year.

Kim began working at CHANS as a Home Health Aide in December 1987. She was nominated for the award by her supervisor, Deborah Siegel, RN, BSN, Director of Hospice at CHANS Home Health & Hospice.

"Kim demonstrates a very high level of customer service in her work and puts the care of her patients first," said Siegel. "Not only is Kim wonderful with her patients, but she is the first one to offer to orient new staff, taking nurses and social workers out with her to see her work. Kim makes sure to take time to develop a special and trusting relationship with her hospice patients. She comes to work every day with a smile and a positive attitude."

Part of Mid Coast–Parkview Health, CHANS Home Health & Hospice is a full service, non-profit, Joint Commission Accredited agency providing nursing, rehabilitation, palliative, hospice, and private duty care services, and an array of community-based wellness clinics in the Midcoast Area.
