Booster Doses Available at Mid Coast Hospital COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Beginning September 29

In accordance with the latest US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations, Mid Coast Hospital will begin offering COVID-19 vaccine booster shots to those who are eligible beginning Wednesday, September 29. Booster doses at the Mid Coast Hospital COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic will be available by appointment only.

The current booster recommendation is only for the Pfizer vaccine. Moderna is expected to have their application for booster authorization reviewed shortly, and J&J has indicated that they will also present data soon on the efficacy of a booster dose.

Booster doses are meant to "boost” an immune response which may have declined after the initial vaccine series, and many available vaccines require boosters. Evidence shows that immunity does begin to wane 6 months after Pfizer vaccination. Rest assured that you do not have to get the booster exactly 6 months after your initial series, but getting the COVID vaccine booster when it is recommended for you will assure that you maintain your protection against severe disease and hospitalization.
